Facial melanoses (FM) is one of the most common skin pigmentation problems in Indian patients, causing aesthetic disfigurement along with considerable psychological impact.
There are well defined causes of facial melanoses are present such as melasma, Lichen Planus Pigmentosus, Erythema Dyschromicum Perstans(edp), Riehl’s melanosis, Erythroisis and Poikiloderma of Civatte. Diagnosis of this generally depends on the clinical features.
Etiology in most of the causes is unknown, but some contributory factors are UV radiation, exposure to chemicals and other allergens.
There is no universal specific therapy for pigmentation. We need to use photoprotection, avoidance of provoking factors, topical skin lightening agents.
Chemical peels, Dermabrasion and LASERS along with topical creams provide quick and safe results.
